The Guard Father Spike is a one of a kind OTF automatic ice pick. It features a sharpened stainless steel spike that shoots out the front of the handle with fast automatic action. The release button is located under the pocket clip, which rotates to function as a safety mechanism.
What is the Spike for? The possibilities are endless! It can be used as an ice pick, glass breaker, defense tool, collector's item or the manliest toothpick that ever existed. These are more of a fun novelty item than a heavy duty EDC tool, but who doesn't like fun? This version of the spike has a black anodized aluminum body and a spike made from 440 stainless steel. ViperTec Knives will not warranty products due to loss by theft or accident, damage caused by abuse, neglect, misuse, accident, improper blade sharpening, normal wear and tear including paint loss, fading, discoloration, or chips, introduction of foreign substances, or disassembly. Do not use your knife as a pry bar, screwdriver, chisel, or punch. Do not throw your knife. ViperTec Knives will not warranty blades or handles that are twisted, bent, chipped, gouged, warped, or have had finishes removed. Use of ViperTec knives for any purpose other than cutting is considered abuse and will void the warranty.
The term “Lifetime” refers to the lifetime of the product. This doesn’t mean your lifetime or ours, but rather the lifetime of the components and materials. All materials degrade over time with use and exposure to the elements and a product’s lifetime is a function of how much use it gets and how well it is cared for and not by how it is.

More dangerous than expected, solid, well crafted, opens vigorously; clip side opens; spearpoint visible when closed.
You need habits to avoid lancing your palm. Rotate pocket clip to expose button, insure no flesh in path of dagger, push to spring.
Can be held unopened, index on button end fixed in palm, a pointing gesture at target will extend reach 3.5 inches.
Closed end serves as yawara blunt; no merciful options here last moment counter; could be used to deter a thigh.

Read the description and was skeptical. All to often you see something that looks nice and beneficial only to find out it’s a toy. Not with this ice pick. It has great weight and has kept its point time after time. My brother described the impact of release by saying, "it hits so hard when it comes out you feel like you have to use all your strength to keep it from flying out of your hand”!!! (Obviously with a big smile on his face) and I would definitely agree. This is the real deal and far from a toy. All that’s left to say is thank you Viper-Tec!!! Definitely buying "stocking stuffers”.

1) I buy ice for home use weekly because I make a lot of whole fruit smoothies. As an ice pick it's perfect.
2) Self defense EDC - very much looks like a fine point pen. doesn't draw attention to it's self. Also really easy to get into firing position. A simple half twist and all you have to do is push the button for a :zap: fast deployment. The button is not going to set off accidentally underneath the pocket clip. Simple to unscrew and reset the launch readiness for the next time you need it. My only wish is that the handle itself had a bit more texture for safely striking without slipping. The pocket clip has an indenture which helps you grip it but when you're hitting some solid pieces of ice I've found it's a little tough on the fingers. But it's a really solid, probably forever perfect tool for the job. I wish I'd gotten two, one to carry, one for the chef tool drawer. But I just have it with me all the time instead :grin:

In this day and age no one needs an icepick, but if you decide you’ve gotta have one, this is it. Very well-made with a STRONG spring and spike.....it will work for all your ice-picking needs and many more. The only drawback, and a minor one to me, is the fact that it has to be manually retracted into handle by putting the point against a hard surface and pushing down......no problem, just an extra step if you’re gonna use it. This is my 5th Viper-Tec product and it’s hard to say enough good things about them !!

When I ordered the spike I was leery about its ability to penetrate a target. I noticed how the point looks more like a pointer than a weapon.
Well, my doubts about penetration were taken care of when I stabbed it through 3 inches of cardboard and as for the point definitely a weapon that passes as something any instructor/teacher would carry. I could not be more pleased with this purchase!

Functional and good as a back up EDC self defense tool. A little hard to find the release button without lots of practice. Needs auto retract feature as well. I would give it a 5 star rating and gladly pay more with these two upgrades. Otherwise very pleased with the product quality and price.
